Belvedere Infant School Travel Plan A School Travel Plan is a written document which outlines a series of practical steps for improving children’s safety on the journey to and from school. The plan should result in benefits for pupils, parents and the wider community: it will assist pupils and parents in identifying healthy and sustainable transport options and help to reduce the numbers of cars on the road at peak times. Congestion on the roads around the school at drop off and collection times is a concern, and our Travel Plan has been formulated in order to address this issue. In addition it will contribute to the improvement of the environment around the school. Belvedere Infant School's Travel plan was approved by Transport for London and the London Borough of Bexley at the end of the Summer Term, and a capital grant was awarded to the school. After consulting with parents via a questionnaire, it was clear that many parents felt that there was no where to shelter from the rain during the mornings and afternoons, and so they had no alternative but to bring their children to school by car. We hope that by building this shelter, more parents will consider leaving their car at home and walking their children to school. Many more issues have been raised during the development of the School Travel Plan and the School is working with the London Borough of Bexley in order to begin to address these issues over the next 2 years. The safety of our children is paramount and our aim is to ensure a safe arrival at, and departure from, school. A copy of our School Travel Plan can be viewed on request.
